Blue-Gold Coalition to Save Queen Mary’s Sidcup

Posted by jonathanfryer on Saturday, 1st March, 2008

Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the London borough of Bexley don’t always see eye to eye, not least since the LibDem PPC for Old Bexley and Sidcup, Duncan Borrowman, has been trying to shame local MP Derek Conway into resigning over his parliamentary family business. But such enmity was set aside today, as respectable numbers from both parties took part in a good-natured march to save services at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, with a charming Boys’ Brigade Band tootling merrily in the sun in front. The two London mayoral candidates, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick, were in the fore of the march, along with MPs from their respective parties, David Evennett and Simon Hughes. No sign of Ken Livingstone, of course. Or Derek Conway, for that matter…

Do you suppose Livingstone would have attended had he not been at Labour’s spring conference?

I doubt it very much, Dave. If he had wished his voice to be heard on this issue, he could have sent a message, even if he couldn’t be physically present. Sadly, he rarely seems to take much interest in the outer London boroughs.
