OneVoice on Israel-Palestine

Posted by jonathanfryer on Friday, 4th March, 2011

A diverse group of people interested in issues relating to Palestine gathered at the Mayfair home of Mona Bauwens last night, to meet and hear from young leaders from OneVoice — a grassroots, civil society movement which works in parallel in both Israel an Palestine and aims to ‘amplify the voice of the silent, moderate majority.’ They have bases in Tel Aviv and Ramallah, as well as London (for Europe), Ottawa (Canada) and New York (international section). They stress that they are not a political organisation per se, but they do work to promote a peaceful two-state solution to the ongoing Israel-Palestine dispute. They run a Youth Leadership programme for Israelis and Palestinians in the 18-35 age group, concentrating on conflict resolution, public speaking and mobilising support for OneVoice’s principles. They also have an International Education programme which brings young Israelis and Palestinians over to the UK and to the US to meet with people in universities and community groups. They have a strong endorsement from the Quartet’s Middle East envoy Tony Blair (which is something of a mixed blessing in some parts of the world, including Britain), and ‘seek to build international support for the moderate majorty on the ground who are calling for a peaceful negotiation to reach a mutually acceptable solution’ in the Middle East.
